Our Mission

Established in 1975, Douglasville School of Dance has been a family and community based dance studio.  We take pride in offering a quality dance program in a loving and nurturing atmosphere.  Our programs instill the values of goal setting, perseverance, and a positive self-esteem along with the fun and enjoyment of dancing. Our goal is to give each dancer the opportunity to develop her own love of dance in a safe and non-competitive environment.

Our Promise

Our policy is to place each child in the class best suited for her age, dance experience & ability. We consider it a privilege to have your child in our dance program & will give each child quality dance instruction in a caring atmosphere during this dance year.

There were no dance schools in Douglasville in 1975 when Libba Tishaw opened Douglasville School of Dance. The original location was in the Market Square Shopping Center on Highway 5.  Nine years later, after being a student and then assisting and teaching at DSD, I was offered the opportunity to purchase DSD in 1983. DSD remained in the shopping center until May 1989. God had great blessings for DSD and allowed us to open a brand new building located at West Stewart Mill Road in the fall of 1989.

Throughout the many years, DSD performed annually at Egleston’s Festival of Trees in the 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s. In the summer of 1996, we had the awesome privilege of having a group of our dancers perform in the Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Our dancers were invited to perform in the televised Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Christmas Parade for many years. We continue to perform at local events including the Douglasville Christmas parade.

After graduation from high school and college, many of our former dancers have chosen such esteemed careers as teachers, attorneys, nurses, doctors just to name a few.

Many of our students have assisted in our dance classes, and after graduating have joined our teaching staff. I, along with the DSD staff, have thoroughly appreciated the opportunity of teaching thousands of little girls over the years. God has truly poured out His blessings on our school, and I give Him the glory for its success.
